Beetle Buds Background

Beetle Buds is run by Dave Klimowicz, a recent Massachussetts transplant by way of North Jersey.

After acquiring a master’s degree in library & information science from Drexel University, Dave spent five years in the publishing industry, including one year in Boulder, Colorado where he absolutely fell in love with hiking and nature.

Upon his return to the east coast, he gave up his long commute & desk job to spend more time outdoors. Inspired by the conservation work of a close friend and the writings of Doug Tallamy, Dave began to combine his love of nature with his research background. His subsequent years were spent collecting seeds and learning as much as possible about the complex relationships between native plants and wildlife.

A member of New Jersey Native Plant Society, Xerces Society, Native Plant Trust, and the Great Swamp Watershed Association, Dave now dedicates most of his time to re-wilding suburbia by growing region specific plants for his community, while designing gardens with invetebrates, birds, and mammals (including neighbors) in mind. Dave also recently worked closely with his former NJ town’s environmental commission to adopt a tree replacement ordinance with a focus on native species, and has recently joined the Berkshire Conservation District as an associate member where he hopes to learn about and contribute to the county’s conservation efforts.

In his spare time, catch Dave tending to his vegetable garden, jogging the trails, exploring a new bookstore, or crouched over, on a hike with his wife, who patiently waits as he takes another close up photo of an insect (proof provided).
